Introducing our Project Manager, Ron
December 2, 2018
Ron Hudson, Project Manager
Date you joined the Partners team: April, 2017
What’s the best part of your role? What do you look forward to at work?
The best part of my role is taking pride in the fact that I have been entrusted to manage multi-million dollar developments. Guiding the project through its various phases to completion, standing back and saying ‘I did that’. When I arrive at work there is, more often than not, an issue or problem that has to be addressed. I don’t look forward to these problems, but the good feeling when they are overcome is well worth the effort. After all, that is my role. If everyone came to work, did their work perfectly, on time and budget, I wouldn’t have a job!
How did you end up working for Partners? Or what inspired you to get involved in the homebuilding industry?
Our VP of Construction, Tim Dubiel, and I worked together for another home builder on a large multifamily site in the past. Tim left that company and joined Partners. He told me how much he enjoyed working with Partners and asked me to join the team.
What’s your favourite memory from your time working at Partners?
I haven’t worked with Partners for a long time, but my favorite times are just sitting around having a coffee or at team lunch having discussions about work or our personal lives.
What’s your favourite community built by Partners and why? (Past or present.)
My favorite project would be ARRIVE at Bowness. It was my first project with Partners. I worked with Tim and got to know the Partners team. The project had a few unique issues that we had not dealt with before, such as a City of Calgary playground that had very strict regulations. There were architectural and landscape features that were above the norm and the project was a great success, was applauded by the Mayor of Calgary and won an architectural award.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy fly fishing on the Bow River, golfing and taking long drives through the Rocky Mountains with my wife and three dogs.
What’s something that your colleagues may not know about you?
My colleagues know most of my past and present work and personal life.
Do you have any advice for first-time homebuyers?
Do your homework before you make any decisions. There are so many factors to consider. Hire an expert, realtor, home inspector and lawyer. Talk to friends and family who have purchased homes in the past. Listen to their advice. A house is a lot of money and bad decisions could have lasting consequences.
What’s the secret to building great homes? What makes Partners different to other companies?
I don’t believe there is a secret to building great homes. All home builders know how to build great homes but not all make the choice to do so. We all have to follow the building codes, but that’s where the differences between home builders may change. The quality of finishing, the use of space, the use of new and innovative products, etc, all make the difference. Partners builds neighborhoods, not just a house. They have playgrounds, park areas, sometimes a child care center or a convenience store. It all adds up to a great home.
Anything else you want to add?
A few words come to mind when I hear the word Partners or the name Greg Gutek. Honesty, morality, loyalty. Employee or home buyer, you feel safe under the Partners umbrella!
