Introducing our Project Manager, Jeff
December 8, 2018
Jeff O’Brien, Project Manager
Date you joined the Partners team: Feb 2013
What’s the best part of your role? What do you look forward to at work?
I enjoy taking something that starts as a drawing on paper to something real that people can enjoy, move into, and live in for many years to come. I look forward to collaborating with our trade partners to create beautiful homes.
How did you end up working for Partners? Or what inspired you to get involved in the homebuilding industry?
I worked at a previous home builder for over 20 years until someone in management there decided that “years of experience” equalled “too old to do the job any longer”. I have worked in the industry since 1980. I have always liked working with my hands, watching my Dad create things or repair literally anything. Also, being able to create things that people enjoy whether it’s a home or heirloom furniture.
What’s your favourite memory from your time working at Partners?
Working with fellow employees on my first project, ARRIVE at Skyview Ranch. It was very exciting for all of us as we began to grow as a certified BuiltGreen company.
What’s your favourite community built by Partners and why? (Past or present.)
Arrive at Redstone is special to me as it was my first development from start to finish with Partners, but Okotoks feels like home to me, and I’ve built the Partners’ Arrive brand there. The friendly people and the small-town atmosphere are endearing.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my family. After going through cancer treatments, getting to spend time with family is very important to me. I also play in a band and that is something that I love to do for myself.
What’s something that your colleagues may not know about you?
I am the 7th of nine children in my family and my Mom died when I was 11 years old. Both those things have had a large effect on who I have become as an adult.
Do you have any advice for first-time homebuyers?
Don’t think that you need to buy something that checks off all your boxes with your first home. Start simple and work up to what you want because your needs change often.
What’s the secret to building great homes? What makes Partners different to other companies?
The secret to building great homes is “details”. All details are important, no matter how small.
At Partners, I don’t have to worry about two or three different levels of management, micromanaging you or your job.
