Get to know Jade, our VP Operations and Development

Jade Mahon

Date you joined the Partners team: June 2006

Job title: Jack of all areas! I’m VP of Operations and Development.

What’s the best part of your role?

I really enjoy seeing the homeowners make their new home THEIRS – watching it become a reality – knowing that our team is having fun and building relationships with our new Partners’ family members as they ARRIVE home!

What do you look forward to at work?

I enjoy my work mates and our dogs that join us each day – we have fun together and a lot of respect is demonstrated for each other’s capabilities. We all pitch in wherever needed simply because we want to, not because we “have to”.

How did you end up working for Partners? Or what inspired you to get involved in the homebuilding industry?

When Greg purchased a “land deal” in Canmore I was working with that land developer – creating a condo resort from design to reality (Silver Creek Lodge on Mountain Avenue).  Greg hired me to continue working on that development. After Silver Creek Lodge, I came on as the Sales & Marketing Manager when Partners became certified BuiltGreen and developed the ARRIVE brand of townhomes.

What’s your favourite memory from your time working at Partners?

I truly believe that I gain favourite memories all the time – watching the Partners’ team grow as individuals, watching how we all get along so well, and the laughter – sharing stories of our families, joking around with each other – you name it, it’s simply a positive feeling.

What’s your favourite community built by Partners and why? (Past or present.)

I’m excited for each one as they come into reality – from design concepts to real people and their families moving in to what we created. Building the ARRIVE brand of townhomes has been my “baby” since 2010, but it’s been the whole Partners’ team – the architects, developers and planners, designers and master trades people we work alongside with – that have made our end product industry-leading, sustainable, townhome communities.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I’m a pretty simple person – I’m a huge fan of coming home, opening a good book while listening to my husband play his guitar (ya, I’m his biggest fan!)

What’s something that your colleagues may not know about you?

Although I was born and raised in Regina… I’m not a Riders fan (I may get fired over saying that!) – I’m simply not a fan of football period! But I do have a Riders’ shirt, just cause my Mom bought it for me I feel I have to wear it, so it may appear like I’m a fan… but it’s more for “show” and support of my work mates who are staunch fans, win or lose lose lose…

Do you have any advice for first-time homebuyers?

Be prepared so your heart doesn’t get broken and becoming discouraged early in the process! Talk to a mortgage professional and figure out your budget as early as possible – we’ve all be down this path ourselves and want to make the homebuying process smooth for our purchasers. Finding the right mortgage broker is so important – one that will work for you and help you to live within your means. A bigger home doesn’t mean it’s a better fit – your budget is what dictates this.

What’s the secret to building great homes? What makes Partners different to other companies?

Partners is a “family”, one that includes our trades, suppliers and homeowners. Our President, Greg, leads by example and sets a great one – he inspires us to simply be better at what we do just because we want to.  I know working along side Greg since 2006 has made me a better person, and I feel if I’m improving myself, then Partners as a whole benefits.  Knowing that our leader, Greg, is a humble fellow keeps us all humble too. I know we are blessed – we all work hard in our roles within the company, we collaborate as a team, we express ourselves and ideas openly so we can take ownership of our high level of building standards and continuous seeking of finding the best practices of building affordable, quality homes together.

Anything else you want to add?

Our goal is not to be the “biggest” builder in the Calgary area, our goal is simply to keep our people working by steadily building the best product we can with our trades, our suppliers, our advertisers, our homeowners; and I believe that building our townhome communities is a benefit to the economy as a whole – so how can I not be inspired to be better at what I do?
